Helpful School Holiday Tips

If you only commute a few kilometres to work, then going away over the school holidays is probably one of your biggest drives of the year.

So what should you do to prepare your car for a long trip?

Pre-holiday checklist

There are a number of essential checks that you should always undertake before a long holiday drive. These include:

Engine Oil Level – remember to check it on the flat with the engine cold

Radiator Coolant Level – never check when the engine is hot and never put cold water into a hot radiator

Tyre Tread and Pressure – good tyres will make your drive safer, legal and more economical too

Windscreen wash levels – use a good quality windscreen wash to help remove all those bugs from your windscreen

Last but not least make sure that your battery is fully charged and in good condition - If in doubt, bring into our guys and they can test it for you as we carry a full range of batteries here in stock.

Professional pre-holiday checks

If you can arrange your annual service to coincide with your holiday, then even better, but if not, we offer an affordable check of things like brakes, exhaust and drive belt, as well as fluid levels for things like power steering. If your cooling system hasn't been serviced for a while or if you're unsure then get it into us and we can check it and if anything needs doing we can price it for you. There would be nothing worse then been stuck on the side of the road, kids in the back, bonnet up and steam hissing out from underneath.
